Building Childcare for All
A statewide movement of families, early educators, childcare providers, businesses, community organizations, and neighbors working together to transform childcare in Minnesota.
Our Story
Childcare keeps Minnesota working. But today, our childcare system isn’t working for Minnesotans.
Minnesota families face some of the highest childcare costs in the country, while the people who care for our children can barely afford to care for their own. Programs are closing, waitlists are growing, parents are leaving the workforce, and early educators are leaving the profession they love because they can’t afford to stay.
For years, Minnesotans have organized to strengthen childcare. Together, we’ve won historic investments and built new systems to better support families and providers. These victories have shown us what’s possible, and what’s still needed: a bold statewide solution that matches the scale of our childcare crisis.
That’s why we launched our Childcare for All campaign. We’re building the people power needed to win universal childcare system that works for every family, every child, and every early educator.
What We’ve Won Together
Historic State Investment
Secured more than $1 billion for childcare in 2023 (the largest investment in Minnesota history!) to support families, providers, and early educators.
A New Department for Children, Youth, and Families
Won the creation of the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families, making childcare a statewide priority and creating a more streamlined system for families and providers to navigate.
Ongoing Relief for Early Educator Pay
Made pandemic-era Great Start Compensation Support Payments an ongoing program. It's helped raise wages, but isn't enough to guarantee every educator earns professional pay.
Expanded Childcare Assistance
Strengthened CCAP with higher provider reimbursement rates and wider eligibility. Many families still earn too much to qualify, yet far too little to afford care.
More Early Learning Scholarships
Doubled funding for Early Learning Scholarships. Demand still outpaces available funding, leaving many families without the support they need.
